Volunteer Opportunity with TAILS Lantau:
Foster & Adoption Coordinators
– Cats and Dogs
(Remote)

TAILS Lantau is seeking organised, proactive and committed volunteers to coordinate our cat and dog foster and adoption programmes.

These are two separate remote volunteer roles, each carrying real responsibility and direct impact. They are central to ensuring rescued animals move safely and efficiently from intake, to foster care, and ultimately into permanent homes.

Role Overview

The Foster & Adoption Coordinator (Cat or Dog) manages each animal’s journey from intake through foster placement, ongoing coordination, application screening and final adoption confirmation.

You will serve as the primary point of contact between fosters, adopters and the TAILS team, ensuring clear communication, responsible placements and smooth transitions at every stage.

Core Responsibilities

•  Managing the intake of new rescue cats or dogs and matching  them to suitable foster homes
•  Screening foster and adopter applications to ensure responsible placements
•  Coordinating foster rotations, vet visits and care transitions
•  Providing practical guidance and consistent support to fosters and adopters
•  Maintaining accurate, organised case records for each animal
•  Liaising with the social media team to promote animals available for adoption
•  Coordinating transport, deliveries and foster/adopter exchanges as required

Commitment & Working Style

The roles are remote and flexible in structure — you manage your own schedule. However, rescue work is dynamic and often requires consistent daily involvement.

On average, this equates to approximately one hour per day, though this may vary depending on caseload.

Questions, placement needs and occasional urgent situations can arise outside planned hours. While you will have a supportive team to back you up, these roles require:

•  Strong personal initiative
•  Regular responsiveness
•  Good judgement and calm decision-making
•  The ability to prioritise and self-manage workload
•  Reliability and long-term commitment
•  Flexibility exists, but continuity and accountability are essential for the welfare of the animals.

What These Roles Offer

•  Direct, measurable impact on the safe rehoming of rescued cats or dogs
•  Hands-on experience in rescue coordination, screening and case management
•  Development of organisational, communication and decision-making skills
•  Meaningful responsibility within a collaborative, mission-driven team

These are volunteer positions. While unpaid, they offer genuine ownership and play vital operational roles within the organisation.

Ideal Candidate

•  Organised and detail-oriented
•  Calm and objective when screening applications
•  Strong written communicator
•  Proactive and self-motivated
•  Genuine love and understanding of cats or dogs

No prior rescue experience is required. Training and team support will be provided.

If you are seeking a structured and meaningful way to contribute to animal welfare and can commit consistently, please complete the volunteer application form and indicate whether you are applying for the Cat or Dog Foster & Adoption Coordinator role:
